This Tuesday,Lincoln Park Zoo Is Going To The Cows In Honor Of “Chi-Cow-Go’s 175th Birthday”

Head out to Lincoln Park Zoo for a day of celebration in honor of Chicago’s 175th Birthday from 10-4p.m. on Tuesday, July 24. The bovine theme “Chi-Cow-Go” kicks off with the unveiling of colorful cow statue at the Farm in the Zoo at 10 a.m. Bring a camera for photo opportunities featuring our beastly friends receiving and devouring edible piñatas in the shape of Chicago’s iconic sculptures, buildings and snacks.

Are You Ready To Eat At The Taste of Chicago?

Get ready to feast during the Taste of Chicago from July 11-15. There is no entrance fee, all concerts and events are free of charge.  The hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day. Tickets for food and beverages can be purchased at booths throughout the Taste: 12 tickets for eight dollars. One may also purchase tickets at all Dominick’s stores in Illinois.

Food Options

There are all types of food sold from over 35 restaurants over the course of five days. In addtion to the 15 pop-up restaurants that rotate daily, and  $40 tickets for Celebrity Chef du Jour. Tickets for CelebrityChef du Jour are available for lunch on Sunday only. However, one must note with a sigh turkey legs willl not be sold this year.

Hello Free Tuesday Fun in Chicago!

Illinois residents enjoy your free admission day at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. Take a Curator Tour at noon featuring BMO Harris Bank Chicago Works: Molly Zuckerman-Hartung. At 6 p.m., join Curator Michael Darling and Jessica Stockholder, artist /pioneer of multimedia installations, for a conversation about her practice. The Smart Museum is Always Free

The Smart Museum is located on the University of Chicago Campus. It is free to visit and air conditioned. The collections include Asian Art, Contemporary Art, European Art and Modern Art and Design. Save the date for next Saturday, July 14 from 2-4 p.m. celebrate Korean Art with live music, performances, Korean refreshments and a tour of From the Land of the Morning Calm: Traditions of Korean Art.

Enjoy Family fun activities for ages 4-12 at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 7. The theme is Bright Lights, Big City.

Learn to create pastel paintings inspired by the Museum’s collection of landscape and portraits. Find out how to use light and dark colors to create works of art that evoke brightness and shadow. Summer hours are 10-5 p.m. on Tuesday- Sunday.  There is a café and gift shop too.

Hello Chicago:Check Out Garfield Park Conservatory Free!

Garfield Park Conservatory is free fun for all ages!  If you love plants, flowers, green living and composting this place will be heavenly for you.  Marvel at Mother Nature’s glory in this urban green oasis.

“Projected Light on The Dome” by Artist Annette Elliot

Check out “Projected Light on The Dome” at Garfield Park Conservatory. This installation exhibit by artist Annette Elliot is in commemoration of the one year anniversary of the hail storm that shattered over 65,000 panes of glass covering the roof of the Conservatory causing extensive damage.  The lights will illuminate the exterior of the Garfield Park Conservatory Children’s Garden from sunrise to sunset, now-July 8. It will be visible from the surrounding neighborhood and the Green Line too.

Free Composting Classes and Plant Clinic on Saturdays

Attend free composting classes on Saturdays (now-October) from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Urban Demonstration Garden. Also check out University of Illinois Extension’s Plant Information Clinic on Saturdays from noon through 4 p.m. in the lobby of the Palm House.  Other services provided include the following:

 The annual Master Gardener’s Training Program is held in one of the community rooms and a variety of monthly gardening tips written by the Extension’s own Ron Wolford, can be found on the Conservatory’s website. Mr. Wolford writes for the Chicago Tribune, Chicagoland Gardening Magazine and a variety of other publications.”

SEE the Garfield Goats on July 7-13

Also, see Sani, Salvi, and Gracie, the Garfield Goats, take care of the Prairie Grass by eating it this week during conservatory hours from July 7- July13. However, if there is inclement weather they will not be on display.

Free Family Fun Activities on Saturdays & Sundays:

Family fun activities are from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays & Sundays scheduled now through October. Families can enjoy the outdoor play garden, and planting parties, green thumb activities which typically last for 15-20 minutes. If there is inclement weather the fun will be held indoors at the Elizabeth Morse Genius Children’s Garden.
